Several days of record breaking rain across the New South Wales coast has caused severe flooding, forcing tens of thousands of people to evacuate, with a further 6,000 evacuated in the past 24 hours. Homes and livelihoods have been lost, and over 847 people have had to be rescued from flood waters by NSW SES. With several river systems reaching their peaks, the Warragamba Dam spilling over, and more heavy rain forecast, further flash flooding events are predicted. 

The floods have affected large swathes of the State - 18 community evacuation orders remain in place for residents across low lying areas of the NSW coast and Western Sydney, and a further 8 communities have major flood warnings in place. The Mid North Coast and the Hawksbury/Nepean flood plain areas are the hardest hit, with reports indicating this is a 1 in 60 year flood event for the area.
